Disease Control and Prevention Center
Disease Control and Prevention
Since ancient times, infectious diseases have threatened human health and life. Our center engages in the development of medical experts with advanced skills and knowledge and infection control leaders for communities and global society to fight against antimicrobial resistance and emerging infections.
Prevention Comes First
Primary prevention is the principal of infection control. We utilize epidemiology, prevention awareness, health promotion, and public communication to support citizens and medical professions in infection control. In the travel clinic, we provide essential knowledge for living overseas safely and vaccinations.
Networking and Communication
For effective infection control, assistance from communities, facilities, and other countries is vital. Our center exchanges information and builds collaborative relationships with them to take prompt action in case of emergencies. We work to develop a reliable platform for people who are engaged in infection control in Japan.
Diagnosis, Treatment, and Care
We provide consultations on infectious diseases and suspected cases from both inside and outside the hospital. If you have trouble with diagnosis or treatment, please feel free to contact us. We actively engage in the diagnosis or treatment of imported infections and those cases that are challenging to diagnose.
Education and Training
A crisis management system for infectious diseases from home and abroad has become more critical due to the outbreak of Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever in West Africa and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in the Middle East and South Korea in recent years. We develop human resources who can promptly and accurately handle emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases while cooperating with other medical institutions and government.
Research and Interpretation
The clinical microbiology lab is located in the NCGM research institute as a part of the DCC. The laboratory pursues research focusing on molecular epidemiology that connects basic with the clinical field.
Risk assessment and Action
If we leave an infectious disease untreated, it may expand from a person through communities, cross the border, and finally threaten people worldwide. We develop leaders who can detect infectious diseases in their early stages, adequately assess the risk, and make a rapid response to them. We create the field for studying and networking with the cooperation of Japanese specialized agencies such as the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and the National College of Nursing.
